Jean Mench Creighton, 79

WORTON, Md. - Jean Mench Creighton of Worton died Thursday, March 22, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. She was 79.

Mrs. Creighton was born July 22, 1927, in Rock Hall, daughter of the late William C. and Ida Benton Mench.

She was a lifelong resident of Rock Hall. She worked with the Rock Hall Shirt Factory for 25 years and as a waitress at the Rock Hall Inn. She was well known throughout the community. In her later years she helped her husband, Bill Creighton, with his crabbing business.

Mr. and Mrs. Creighton traveled to Florida for 30 years residing in Port Charlotte, Fla., in the winter months and Rock Hall during the spring, summer, and fall. They retired to Port Charlotte for five years before returning to Kent County to be closer with their family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Harvey, on Dec. 29, 2006.

She is survived by two brothers, Benjamin Mench of Rock Hall and Phil Mench of Chestertown; a sister, June Haun of Chestertown; a son, Jerry Creighton of Rock Hall; a daughter, Ruth Creighton of Worton,; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Md. 20, Rock Hall, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kent County Adult Day Care Center, 125 S. Lynchburg St., Chestertown, MD 21620.

Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home Rock Hall.
