SMYRNA - Jean F. Nowland went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 3, 2018.
Born to Clarence and Elizabeth Farrow on Oct. 16, 1925 in Milford, Jean resided in Smyrna for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Howard Nowland "Buckeye"; her son, W. Howard Nowland, Jr. "Billy"; and sisters, Louise (Staats) Poore, Elizabeth "Betty" Erschen, Bobbie Shirk, and Charlotte Shirey; and her brother, John Farrow.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Nowland; and her sister, Frances Nabb and her husband Charles; many nieces and nephews; and family members on her husband's side.
Jean and Howard enjoyed working together on many family projects which eventually lead to the building of their family home prepared for themselves and their two children, Billy and Linda. And how they enjoyed the kindness of those who might come by and volunteer their time and abilities along the way. Gardening was always high on their list, as well, and harvests came in to be prepared, enjoyed and shared throughout the year. Jean enjoyed cooking and baking too and was known to be an excellent seamstress.
Jean took great joy from her involvement in the church and seeing what could be accomplished together with others. Her creative abilities were again released as she worked many hours preparing unique items for the annual Asbury Church Christmas Bazaar. And who wouldn't enjoy preparing and serving food to the local community and to those who would come from afar.
In addition to her family and church, Jean very much enjoyed her career as Secretary in the Smyrna School District. Many a service was performed through the cooperative efforts of the many-membered staff in the schools and Jean did her best to be an asset and help with the tasks at hand. Precious friendships were forged in those days through much goodwill. Jean's retirement celebration from the District was truly an event to be appreciated and enjoyed.
Our family wishes to thank Delaware Hospice for their invaluable care and love during this time in our lives.
