Jean C. Birch, 72

MIDDLETOWN - Jean C. Birch of Middletown died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 72.

Mrs. Birch was born in Little Creek.

She attended Middletown High School.

Mrs. Birch worked for the telephone company.

After being a homemaker for many years, she began work at the Middletown Odessa Townsend (M.O.T.) Senior Center as an outreach worker and later went on to become director of the M.O.T. Senior Center and president of the Middletown Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Birch Jr.

She is survived by her children, Chris Birch and his wife, Linda, Cindy Shields and her fiancé, Pat Desmet, Steve Birch and his fiancée, Virginia Cole and Greg Birch and his wife, Julie; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ralph Jr. and Mary Edna Carty, Harold and Crin Carty and Richard Carty; two sisters and two brothers-in-law Margaret and Robert Ciunci, and Mary Virginia and George Volka; and a lifelong friend, Ruby May Stanley.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

The family suggests memorial contributions to The Jean Birch M.O.T. Senior Center, 300 S. Scott St., Middletown, DE 19709.
