Jean Allen Vanaman, 85 LIMA, Pa. - Jean Allen Vanaman, 85, of Lima, and formerly of Bowers Beach, Del., died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Fair Acres Nursing Home, Lima. She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Walter J. and Helen (Lutz) Allen. She was a 1944 graduate of Yeadon High School in Yeadon, Pa. She was a homemaker. Mrs Vanaman was a member of Bowers Beach United Methodist Church, and the Frederica Senior Center. She was Past President of the Leedom Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary of Ridley Park, a member of the Leedom Estates Civic Association and a 30 year member of the Bowers Beach Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, Bowers Beach. She was also a member of the "Spring Chickens" Club of Bowers Beach. For over 40 years, Mrs. Vanaman was leader and neighborhood chairman for the Girl Scouts of America. During her stay at Fair Acres, she was a member of the garden club and the crafts club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter H. Vanaman in 2001; two brothers, Robert Lingle, Sr. and Henry Lingle; and a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Lingle Wilson. Surviving are one son, Ronald A. Vanaman of Media, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith V. and Joseph Moore of Ridley Park, Pa.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford. Interment was private in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Auxiliary of Bowers Beach Fire Co , 3285 Main Street, Frederica, DE 19946.
