MILFORD - Janice Greggs Ethredge, loving called "G," of Milford went home on July 22, 2007, in Nanticoke Hospital, Seaford. She was 77.
Born on Nov. 20, 1929, in Blackville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Sam and Reather Greggs.
Mrs. Ethredge was raised in the Denmark/Bamberg/Orangeburg area and attended Voorhees High School in Denmark, S.C.
She worked in the nursing profession before retiring in the late 1980s.
Mrs. Ethredge was last employed by Providence Hospital, Columbia, S.C.
As a young girl, she came to know the Lord and served at Mt Zion Baptist Church, Denmark, S.C.
Mrs. Ethredge later joined First John Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C. and served our Savior faithfully, even in failing health.
She was a quiet, unassuming person who loved the Lord, family and friends and "shopping for fabric".
Mrs. Ethredge was an expert seamstress and enjoyed outfitting/styling anyone that she could get to stand still.
Her earthly journey was not an easy road to travel. She was a single mother who raised four outspoken daughters, not an easy task.
Mrs. Ethredge endured physical and emotional pain but knew that she walked with the arm of God as her support.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland; brothers, John Greggs, Nathaniel Greggs, and Clary Greggs; and sister, Lillian Brown.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara and her husband, Robert Gainey of Milford, Jeanette and her husband, Danny Pearson of Columbia, S.C., Teresia Johnson of Swansea, S.C. and Diane Hogan of Columbia, S.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Joseph Reed of Philadelphia; brother, Melvin Greggs of Denmark, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 274 N. Rehoboth Blvd., Milford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
