Janet M. Williams Thompson, 79

SMYRNA - Janet M. Williams Thompson, of Smyrna, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in her home surrounded by family. She was 79. Mrs. Thompson was born Jan. 18, 1929, in Saxis, Va,, the daughter of the late Lettie A. and Bessie Grace Martin. She retired from the Delaware Home and Hospital in Smyrna, and was co-owner of Williams Produce Stand that was located north of Smyrna in the 1950's. She loved to spend time with family and friends. She also enjoyed taking care of people. She worked several years after retirement taking care of home bound patients. She has been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for several organizations around Smyrna. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Edward (Scoop) J. Williams and William Thompson; a son, David (Buster) J. Williams; and three sisters, Alice Martin (West), Alva Evans, and Alva Martin; and a brother, Noah James Martin, killed in action in World War II. Mrs. Thompson is survived by two sons, Keith M. Williams and his wife Diane, of Waynesboro, Pa.; Noah J. Williams and his wife Jacquelyn of Smyrna; two daughters, Grace Cooke-Scott and her husband Brian of Dover, and Joanne M. Engle and her husband Lee of Dover. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Noah J. Williams Jr., Tammi Williams, David E. Williams, Kevin M. Williams, Lori Williams, Isaac Engle, Amanda Engle, Rachel Engle, Zachary Cooke, and Bradley Scott; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Williams, Angel Williams, Kaitlynn Williams, and Anthony Ciferni IV; two nieces, Betty Gail Smith, and Harriett West; and a friend like a sister, Helen Urian. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Rt. 13, New Castle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. To send a condolence, contact www.delmarvaobits.com.
