DOVER - Janet Ann Eaton died unexpectedly at home on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012. Janet was born on October 8, 1952 at Langley Air Force Base, Va. to the late Major John J. Vilkas (Ret) and Adele B. Manikas Vilkas. Mrs. Eaton graduated in 1970 from Hartford Public High School, Hartford, Conn. In Dover, she was employed by McCrory's, Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart. Janet's hard work and dedication allowed her to be promoted from clerk to managerial positions. Janet always kept in touch with family and friends. After organizing a reunion, she would always ask, "When shall we have the next one?" If it was too late in the evening to call, she would get on Facebook and post updates. She enjoyed seeing new photos of her loved ones and also playing the online games. Janet was an avid reader and loved discussing the latest books she had read. Janet had a soft spot in her heart for dolphins. She was thrilled when she rode the ferry and saw the dolphins swimming freely in the ocean. Janet loved being surrounded by children and thus treated them as her own. She was an extra grandmother to so many. Janet will be lovingly missed but we are so blessed to have so many cherished memories that we shared with her. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her siblings Teresa and William Vilkas. Janet leaves behind her devoted husband of 36 years, Robert Eaton; loving daughter, Diana Lynn Eaton of Dover; her sisters, Joan Fry of Dover, Marian Imler and her husband Gene of Harrisburg, Pa., and Ann Ogilvie and husband Richard of Manchester Center, Vt.; brother, Robert Vilkas and wife Beth of Cleveland, Ohio; her mother-in-law Virgie Eaton of Dover; brother-in-law, William and his wife Debbie of Va.; many nieces; nephews; former sister-in-law, Lonnie Vilkas of Dayton, Ohio,; many dear friends, especially Eileen & the Travis Family. Memorial contributions may be sent to National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Attn: DEV, Charles B. Wang International Children's Building, 699 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-3175. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE. Letters of condolence may be sent and the guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
