Jane G. Whomsley, 70

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Jane G. Whomsley, of Chestertown, died on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. She was 70.

She was born on March 3, 1937, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Walter and Marie Cohee Garrett.

Following graduation from John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, she went to work with Bell Telephone.

Mrs. Whomsley spent her career with Bell Telephone in computer operations and retired after 30 years as a computer room administrator.

In 1962 she married Donald A. Whomsley; they resided in Philadelphia until building their own home in Chesapeake Landing in Chestertown and moving there 18 years ago.

Mrs. Whomsley founded the Chesapeake Crabetts Chapter of the Red Hat Society.

She was a member of the Daughters of the War of 1812 and past president of the Upper Shore Genealogical Society.

She loved her flower gardens, her pool, and all of her friends and family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five daughters, Beth Bush of Pennsylvania, Maj. Kristal Melvin, U.S. Army of Virginia, Kimberly East of Pennsylvania, Kortney Della Vecchia of New Jersey, and Dian Kelly of Pennsylvania; a sister, Judith Ogborne of Virginia; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
