James W. Carrow, 85

SMYRNA - James W. Carrow of Smyrna died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna. He was 85.

Mr. Carrow was born in Chester, Pa., son of the late Frank and Stella (Wright) Carrow.

He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

Mr. Carrow was a crane operator with Wrights Construction Co., Wilmington, for 38 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a longtime member of Smyrna Wesleyan Church, and was active in many church activities through the years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Schmidt.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Agnes Carrow; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Barbara Carrow of Marydel, Md., Randy and Sherri Carrow of Quantico, Md., Wayne Carrow of Smyrna and Jeff Carrow of Wilmington; a daughter and a son-in-law, Pam and Mike Seeley of Lebanon, Mo.; a brother, Clifton Carrow of Smyrna; a sister, Genevieve Fraze of Smyrna; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation, 1236 Ginger Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
