MILFORD - James R. Hurd, passed away March 22, 2011, at Delaware Hospice after a short illness. James was born in Johnstown, Pa., son of the late Noah Edward and Austi Hurd. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. James was a lifelong resident of Milford and Lincoln and was employed by Bucannan Service Center-Firestone in Milford where he retired. James, better known as "Hurdie" was a roadman for Firestone, where he changed many truck and tractor tires for area farmers and Businesses. He loved to drive the Firestone Truck and loved fishing down at the beach with his fishing Buddies. The largest fish he caught was a Blue, 19 lbs. James served his country with the National Guard, Army and Navy. He was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Milford and also the Wesleyan Church in Georgetown. He was a song leader and Board Member for both churches. James loved the Lord and served the Lord for 55 years. He had many brothers and sisters in church, whom he loved. He was ready to meet God and ready for Heaven his new home. James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Tyrrell Hurd James; had many special loved ones, adopted nieces and nephews, sister and brothers-in-law. He loved you all. Funeral services were 1 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Georgetown Wesleyan Church, Bedford Street, Georgetown, where friend called from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial was in St. Johnstown Church, Greenwood.
