James P. Jones, 79 DOVER - James P. Jones, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 79. Mr. Jones was born December 21, 1929 in Thompsonville, Illinois to the late Hershel Byron and Gussie Katherine Jones. He was a veteran in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a strategic air command navigator retiring in 1969 with the rank of Major. After the service he worked 20 years as a clerk for the Camden/Wyoming Post Office retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Officers Club at Dover Air Force Base and attended the Wyoming United Methodist Church. Mr. Jones enjoyed vegetable gardening, which he enjoyed sharing with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed bowling, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan Gentzler Jones of Dover; his son, Jeffrey L. Jones and daughter-in–law Tracey Jones both of Dover; his brother, Carl Jones of East Moline, Ill; his four sisters, Betty Downing, Ruth Frost, Sue Rohner, all of Centralia, and Mary Woodbright of Springfield, Ill; his three grandchildren, Karly, Adam and Eric Jones. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday October 13, 2009, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 7-9 Monday evening. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or Wyoming United Methodist Church, Building Fund PO Box 389, Camden Wyoming DE, 19934-0389. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guest book signed at torbertfuneral.com.
