James Oscar Webster, 89

DOVER - James Oscar Webster fell asleep peacefully in death in Dover on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, completing a full life of 89 years which began as the son of Bart and Goldie Webster in 1918 in Montana.

At the age of 15, James, together with his parents and siblings, learned precious truths of God's Word, the Bible, which would shape the course of his life from that point on.

James was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1934 and began serving as a full-time teacher of the Bible in 1938, traveling extensively throughout Montana, Missouri and Washington.

In 1946, he graduated from the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead and was sent as a missionary to Colombia, South America, where he spent 18 richly satisfying years teaching Bible truths to sincere persons throughout the country.

This tall, humble, devoted man is still fondly remembered by many there whose lives he touched.

His wife, Phyllis, previously serving as a missionary in Puerto Rico, joined him in this ministry in Colombia when married in 1958.

After raising their son, James, in Ohio and Washington state, the Websters continued their full-time Bible teaching efforts in Laredo, Texas, and then, for the past 20 years, throughout central Delaware, focusing on the Spanish-speaking population.

James had complete faith in the Bible's promise of a resurrection to life in a paradise earth, when God's will is done on earth, as in heaven, as Jesus taught his followers to pray for.

His family and friends share this faith and look forward to being reunited with him in that joyful time.

They trust that this patient and loving husband and father and beloved human being made a good name for himself with God and is now safe in His memory.

Mr. Webster is survived by his faithful wife of 49 years, Phyllis; their only son, James, and daughter-in-law Pilar; sisters, Muriel Hines and Evelyn Dennerline; brother, Elton Webster; and many nephews, nieces, and their families.

A memorial service will be presented in both English and Spanish at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1260 West State College Road, Dover.

Arrangements by Funeral Depot, Inc., 7080 State Road 84, Davie, Fla.
