FRANKFORD - James Marvin Hogsten passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. Jim was born May 17, 1936 in Madison Run, VA to the late Samuel and Thomasia (Hicks) Hogsten where he was known as "Marvin". He attended Orange County High School, Fork Union Military Academy and Wesley College. Jim received his B.S. degree in Education from Delaware State University. Jim's football playing days were in high school, Fork Union, U.S. Coast guard Bears, Wesley College Whippets and DSU where he is in the Athletic Hall of Fame. Jim taught at Holy Cross High School in Dover and had been the Athletic Director and coached several sports there and at Lake Forest High School and Dover High School. He also taught Drivers Education at Lake Forest. He was a life member of Delaware Veterans Post 2, St. Martha's Episcopal Church, Delaware Sports Museum Hall of Fame and Coastal Leisure Center where he was a longtime volunteer. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, RV camping, watching many species of birds and animals on his deck and yard. His favorite past time was watching his grandchildren play soccer, basketball and other musical and athletic talents. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna Marie Hogsten of Frankford; two sons, James "J.D." Hogsten and his wife, Deborah of Dover and Lance Hogsten and his wife, Christine of Frankford; four grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, Madison and Jordyn Hogsten and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 4th at St. Martha's Episcopal Church in Bethany Beach with The Rev. Mariann Babnis officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Leisure Cheer Center, 30637 Cedar Neck Road, Ocean View, DE 19970 or St. Martha's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1478, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.
