James J. O'Brien, 89

DOVER - James J. O'Brien, 89, of Dover, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at the Courtland Manor Nursing Home. Born in New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late William and Mary Cullen O'Brien. Mr. O'Brien had served in the Merchant Marine during World War II and later served in The Power Dept. with the New York Transit Authority retiring in 1982. He had been a long time member of Holy Cross Church and had been a member of the BPO Elks Lodge in Dover for over 30 years. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Catherine "Kitty" O'Brien in 1998. He is survived by his nephew, George Taylor of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a niece, Joan Creamer of Friendswood, Texas. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. Graveside Committal Services will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, New and William streets, Dover. Guest Registry and condolences may be forwarded via www. ambruso.com.
