James Hungerford Ponder, 79 BRIDGEVILLE - James Hungerford Ponder, of Bridgeville, formerly of Milton, passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 79. Mr. Ponder was born in Milton, the son of the late James and Linda (Boyce) Ponder. Mr. Ponder was the great-grandson of the late Governor James Ponder. Mr. Ponder attended the First Baptist Church of Georgetown. He enjoyed playing pool, loved spending time with his family and pets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Ponder; two sisters, Lillian Ponder-Hunter, and Edith (Dolly) Ponder -Williams; and a brother John Ponder. Mr. Ponder is survived by his beloved companion of 37 years, Annie Jones-Willey; 11 children, David Ponder of Florida, Janet Ponder of New Mexico, Terry Ponder of Millsboro, Jeffrey Willey of Seaford, John Ponder-Willey of Ca., Linda Smith of Seaford, Robert Willey of Bridgeville, Wilhemina Willey of Millsboro, Christine Roberson of Dover, David Willey of Bridgeville, and Dorothy Willey of Dover; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be held in the Ponder Family Cemetery, Milton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be sent to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
