James H. 'Duke' Naylor Jr., 75

\SMYRNA - James H. "Duke" Naylor Jr., age 75, of Smyrna, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Kent General Hospital in Dover]. Duke was born in Townsend on Sept. 3, 1934, to the late James H. "Dusty" Naylor Sr. and Margaret "Ruby" Ellingsworth Naylor. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1952. Following high school, he joined the National Guards and was activated and stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds from 1960 to 1962. He joined L.U. 626 United Brotherhood of Carpenters in 1954 and was a member for 55 years. He retired in 1992 after many years at the Delaware City Refinery. Duke was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, trapping, hunting, but his favorite hobby was trapshooting. He was a lifetime member of the A.T.A and had won many State Championships and was runner-up at the Grand Nationals Championship in Vandalia, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dolores Shetzler Naylor; four sons and a daughter, James H. 3rd of Smyrna, Stephan F. of Dover, John D. and wife Wanda of Townsend, David W. of Ocean City, Md., and Diann E. Faulkner of Dover; five grandchildren, Jamie N. Luton, James H. Naylor 4th, Christopher J. Naylor, Veronica N. Dorris, and Hannah L. Naylor; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Dorris Jr., and Natalie N. Naylor; and one brother, George E. Naylor and wife Joann. He will be missed by his many friends, family, acquaintances and his dogs Bubby, Minnie, and Pattie. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday evening, Sept. 22, from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be at Old Bohemia Cemetery, Warwick, Md.
