BETHANY BEACH - James Garrison Morgan of York, Pa., and Bethany Beach died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, in York Hospital. He was 76.
Mr. Morgan was born April 24, 1930, in York, the second son of the late Theodora (Garrison) and Joseph William Chilton Morgan.
He attended Spry Elementary School and Jackson Street Elementary School and graduated from York Collegiate Institute-York County Academy.
Mr. Morgan graduated from The Citadel and was commissioned in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Camp Stewart, Ga., Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort MacArthur, Calif., before being sent to Korea during the conflict. He was a graduate of The Command and General Staff College of the U.S. Army. Upon discharge from active duty, he remained in the U.S. Army Reserves until his retirement in 1990 as lieutenant colonel.
In 1980, he was awarded The Meritorious Service Medal with the 2090th USAR School as instructor and course director establishing the basis for continuing classes in the York area.
He was employed by Clarke Mortgage Co. in York and then joined his father at J.W.C. Morgan Real Estate. He and his older brother, Joseph, were principals of the company until they sold the agency which is now Morgan-Collins.
Mr. Morgan was a summer resident of Middlesex Beach and was active in their association where he served on the board of directors and was a past president.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, James Garrison Morgan Jr. of New Brunswick, N.J.; two daughters, Catheryn Morgan of York and Lyle Morgan Ondayko of Lutherville, Md.; two grandchildren, Joseph E. McNeal of New Port Richie, Fla. and Jamie Morgan Ondayko of Lutherville; two brothers, J.W.C. Morgan Jr. of York and David Morgan of Phoenixville, Pa.; and Harry Strausbaugh of Stewartstown, Pa, who grew up in the Morgan household as a brother.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 E. Market St., York, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Dr. John E. Morgan will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in Susquehanna Memorial Garden, York.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may to the York Health Foundation for York Hospital, 45 Monument Road, Suite 200, York, PA 17403.
