James E. 'Jim' Spalding Jr., 82 SMYRNA - James E. "Jim" Spalding Jr., 82, of Smyrna, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Kent General Hospital-Bayhealth in Dover. Born on Feb. 11, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of the late Barbara and James E. Spalding Sr. Jim proudly served his country during World War II with the Navy. Later, he enlisted with the Air Force and went to work with the civil service, where he dedicated more than 30 years. He enjoyed all sports, especially golfing and swimming and was an avid dancer. Jim leaves many wonderful memories to his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy; a daughter, Cynthia Golt and her husband, Robert of Clayton; a son, James E. Spalding III of New York; a sister, Doris Milcic; three grandchildren, Selena, Shawn and Shannon Pritchett and their families; two great-grandchildren and many dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered noon on Monday, April 12, at St. Polycarps Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to service. Interment will be held at a later date at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th Street, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801. Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
