DOVER - James Andrew Burris died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Pinnacle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna. James A. Burris was born March 4, 1919 in York, SC the son of the late Clarence Burris and Maggie Ross Burris. Mr. Burris enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and then re enlisted in 1951 to serve his country until an honorable discharge in 1956. After leaving the military Mr. Burris worked in construction for the Local 199. His interests included fishing, playing the guitar and harmonica, watching Western's on TV and reading the newspaper. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Della Burris; one son, Calvin Burris; two sisters, Alfreda Backus and Elizabeth Burris; and four brothers, Nathaniel Burris, Earl Burris, Alonzo Burris and James Jones. Mr. Burris is survived by two sons, David "Sonny" Burris and wife Hilda of Millington, MD, James A. "Butch" Burris and fiancé' Jacqueline of Dover; one daughter, Margaret Wilson and husband Richard of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Davin Jackson; four sisters-in-law, Martina Jeff of Chestertown, MD, Claudette Hawkins of Chestertown, MD, Virginia Wilson of Chesterville, MD, Jeanette Johnson of Chestertown, MD; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday, October 26, 2015 at 11am at Fellows Family Funeral Home 370 Cypress St. Millington, MD. A visitation will be held from 10-11am. Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Bear, on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 1pm.
