J. Rodger Haughey GREENVILLE - J. Rodger Haughey, age 78, of Geenville, Del., passed away on Saturday, June 26,2010 at the Compassionate Care Center at St. Francis hospital surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Haughey was born in Mckeesport, Pa., the son of the late Gertrude (Clay) and James G. Haughey. He was a research and development chemist for Merck. Rodger worked for Mine Safety in Wilkinsburg, Pa. for 23 years and he later helped design the helmets for the space shuttle at ILC Dover. Rodger was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church where he was very active in the religious education of the third graders. He also served for eight years as an usher. Rodger is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ramona (Margalati) Haughey; his sons and their spouses, Gregory V. and Helen Of Magnolia, Del., Patick D. and Sally of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Rodger F. and Wendy of Newark, Del.; his daughters and their husbands, Susan C. "Susie" and William Hudson of Wilmington, Del. and Shannon "Shanie" and Paul Thompson of Wilmington, Del. Also surviving are his brother, Jerome G. Haughey; and sister, Mary G. "Molly" Haughey, both of McKeesport, Pa. He also is also survived seven grandchildren. Rodger had one son Dominic "Nicky" predecease him. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St Joseph On the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, DE 19807 where friends may call after 9 a.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may also call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 703 North Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805 on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Autism Society of America, 4340 East-West Highway, Ste. 350, Bethesda, MD 20814.
