Irene May Fitzgerald

SLAUGHTER BEACH - Irene May Fitzgerald, 89, of Slaughter Beach, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Henry Lynch and Hattie May (Jones) Lynch, Sr. She worked for the Milford School District for over 20 years starting as a substitute in the cafeteria and after getting her Associates Degree in Food Service, was promoted to Cafeteria Manager until she retired. She was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Methodist Womens Group. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Irene loved to read, especially her Bible. She enjoyed knitting and crochetting, making blankets for each of her grandchildren. Irene was very family oriented and loved spending time with her family. She also loved to travel and throughout her life, was priviledged to have traveled to every state in the Union. She was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed watching them on television. The Fitzgerald family would like to offer their special thank you to her granddaughter Sarah and her mother Mariana Robledo for being there for Mom in her time of need. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Huriah Thomas Fitzgerald Jr. in 1996; three grandchildren, Amanda Fitzgerald, Patrick Fitzgerald and Stacy Dill; two brothers; and one sister, Clarence Lynch, Jr. in February 2011; Phyllis Kreisher in 2009 and Ralph Lynch in 1960. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Sandra and John Dill, of Slaughter Beach; three sons, H. Thomas Fitzgerald and his wife Beth, of Seaford, Steven G. Fitzgerald, of Dover, and Craig S. Fitzgerald, of Slaughter Beach; a sister, Iris Marie Chaney of Bridgeville; 16 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Lincoln United Methodist Church, 2nd and Butler Street, Lincoln. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday evening at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Clendanial Pond Road, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either Lincoln United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Lincoln, DE 19960; or to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
