Ira R. 'Jim' Woodland, 84

FREDERICA - Ira R. "Jim" Woodland of Frederica died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, in Dover. He was 84.

Mr. Woodland was born Nov. 7, 1922, on Hooper's Island, Md., son of the late Raymond and Evelena (Parks) Woodland.

During World War II, he worked for Arundel Corp., Baltimore, building liberty ships. Later, he was a self-employed building contractor in lower Delaware for more than 50 years.

Mr. Woodland lived near Frederica most of his life, and was a former city councilman. In his later years, he was a well-known woodworker and furniture maker. Throughout his life he maintained a passion for both hunting and his dogs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth E. Woodland, in 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Eileen D. Woodland; a daughter and a son-in-law, Janice and Bob Webb of Frederica; a son, James Woodland of Milford; three stepsons, Jeff Rothermel, David Rothermel and his wife Tonya, and Dan Rothermel and his wife Dawn, all of Milford; a stepdaughter, Donna Semans and her husband Ed of Magnolia; and 11 grandchildren, Amber Burgin and her husband Steve of Hawthorne, Fla., Kyle Rothermel, Morgan Rothermel, Taylor Rothermel, Chase Rothermel, Kane Rothermel, Mckenna Rothermel, Zoe Rothermel and Bay Rothermel, all of Milford, and Clay Semans and Cortney Semans, both of Magnolia.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the DLSM Homeless Animal Fund, c/o Felton Bank, 698A N. DuPont Highway, Milford, DE 19963, Attn: Dee Andrews.
