Ida (Bland) Welch, 91

HARRINGTON - Ida (Bland) Welch, of Harrington, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, in her home. She was 91.

Mrs. Welch was born in Quinby, Va., daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Heiger) Bland.

She assisted her husband in owning and operating Welch"s Grocery for more than 20 years. After the grocery store was sold, Mrs. Welch worked in the Harrington Pharmacy until she was in her 70s.

Mrs. Welch loved her church, St. Stephen"s Episcopal Church, and was active in the shawl group, where she made countless shawls.

She was a voracious reader with varied reading interests.

Mrs. Welch was the loving family matriarch who took great care of her family and will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard C. Seely; her second husband, Woodrow Wilson Welch; a brother, Milton Bland; and a sister, Margaret Hill.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard B. Seely of Harrington and Frank E. and Estar Welch of Lancaster, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Stephen"s Episcopal Church, Harrington.

The Rev. John Desaulniers will officiate.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Stephen"s Episcopal Church, 190 Raughley Hill Road, Harrington, DE 19952; or to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
