Ida "Mama Ida" Holcomb, 97
DAGSBORO - Ida "Mama Ida" Holcomb of Dagsboro passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, in the Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, from natural causes. She was 97.
Miss Ida was born Dec. 12, 1909, in Accomack, Va., to the late Tom and Clara Drummond.
She was the youngest of six children.
For the majority of her adult life, Miss Ida - or "Mama Ida," as she was affectionately called by those who loved her - lived in New York, and later relocated to Millsboro, where she was employed by the King Cole Vegetable processing company until she retired.
Miss Ida was a loving and caring person who loved to spend time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Drummond; two grandchildren, William Drummond and Vera Custis; and a great-grandson, Timothy Drummond.
Miss Ida is survived by a son, William Drummond and his wife Shirley Drummond of Dagsboro; five grandchildren, James and his wife Betty Drummond of Georgetown, Edith West, Sharon Johnson and Timothy and his wife Francine Drummond, all of Millsboro, and Ida and her husband Dave Bowden of Clarksville; two step-grandchildren, Deborah Ketter of Laurel, and Twanna and her husband Hansen Hosey of Sanford, Fla.; 39 great-grandchildren; 59 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; as well as the extended families of the late Marie Taylor and the late Addie Ayres; also her close and devoted special friends, Herbert and Mabel Jenkins, and Marion Hopkins, all of Millsboro.
Friends may call from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Friday in St. John"s 2nd Baptist Church, Mt. Joy, Millsboro.
Funeral services will be noon Friday at the church, where the Rev. Annie Custis will officiate and deliver the eulogy.
Interment will be in the Old Hickory Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.
Floral tributes will be accepted, as well as donations in memory of Miss Ida to The Victory and Grace Tabernacle Building Fund, c/o Mrs. Shirley Drummond, 30786 Bunting Road, Dagsboro, DE 19939.
