HARRINGTON - I. Marie Beauchamp-Potter, of Harrington, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 80. Ms. Potter raised and showed cocker spaniels. Her pride and joy were two American and Canadian Champions dogs that she raised, showing them all over the U.S. as well as Canada. In her younger days, she owned and operated House of Beauchamp Beauty Salon in Harrington. She also worked in family business Messick Nursing Home of Harrington for many years. When Ms. Potter met her second husband Robert, she got very involved in auto racing, mainly midgets and sprint cars. She recalls the day that Jeff Gordon at age 14 came and sat on a stack of tires in their garage, and from that day forward, she followed Jeff Gordon's Career. She even had a part of J.C. Agajanian Raceway of Ascott Park in Los Angeles. She wrote articles and poetry for USAC and their different race magazines throughout California and Indianapolis. She even wrote a song that made it all the way to Nashville. Ms. Potter was very outgoing, loved people and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was an avid cook and gardener. She was a strong minded person with a heart of gold. Her greatest joy was traveling with her children and grandchildren and spending time with them. Ms. Potter was a member of the Mispillion Kennel Club, where she served as their Secretary and treasurer for many years, and a member of Penn Treaty Kennel Club of PA. In addition to her parents, Ida and Medford Walls, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years, Clarence F. Beauchamp. She is survived by her second husband of 20 years, Robert "Bob" Potter of Indianapolis, Ind.; sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Lindy Beauchamp of Quartzhill, Calif., and Keith Beauchamp of Harrington; daughter, Debra K. Beauchamp - Gietka and her husband Edward of Lake City, Fla.; ten grandchildren, Erica, Kevin, Darrin, Malorie, and Lauren Beauchamp of California, Cheyenne and Mikenzi Beauchamp of Harrington, Ashlyn Noelle Johnson of Milford, Christian Charles Stelljes of Dover, Lamonte "Mark" Kendzierski and his wife Crystal of Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren, Madison Grace Johnson-Perry, Addison Kendzierski, Nicolas, Ashley, Sophie, and Amelia Beauchamp; and three close friends, Edna, Beverly, and Geneva. Memorial services will be 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. Dupont Hwy., Harrington, with a visitation one prior to the services.
