Howard R. Killen Jr.

R. Killen, Jr., 68 DOVER - Howard "Suds" R. Killen, Jr. of Dover passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. He was 68. Mr. Killen was born September 17, 1945 in Dover, Delaware to the late Howard R. Killen, Sr. and Alice Taylor Killen. He had worked for the Delaware State Police as a dispatcher for 18 years prior to working for Delaware State as a toll collector retiring in 2009 after 15 years. Mr. Killen was a 52 year active member for the Cheswold Fire Company, where he held many offices, President, Vice President, Secretary, 1st and 2nd Assistant Chief and was the Ambulance Chief. He was also on the board of directors, past president of the State Ambulance Association and President Amerada's. Mr. Killen enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, flower and vegetable gardening, and being a part of the fire department. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna L. Turner of Dover; his children, Mary Stachecki and her husband Mike of Milford, and Michael Rigsby of Washington State; sister, Ileene Tigner and her husband John of Dover; grandchildren, Cameron and Candy Davis; great grandchild, Carter Smith; special nephew, John Tigner and his wife Karen; and special great niece, Angie Gooden. A fireman's funeral will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Cheswold Fire Station, Main Street, Cheswold. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Cheswold Fire Company, PO Box 186, Cheswold, DE 19936. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
