STUART, Fla. - Howard Edward Rothmel Sr. of Stuart died Thursday, March 8, 2007, in his home. He was 87.

Mr. Rothmel was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Trainer, Pa., son of the late Howard E. and Phoebe "Gardy" Rothmel.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force. After an honorable discharge, Mr. Rothmel went to work as a truck driver for the Congolium Co.

Mr. and Mrs. Rothmel have been summer residents of Cecil County since 1965.

He loved gardens, raising flowers, refinishing furniture and spending time with his family.

Mr. Rothmel was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10132 in Florida, past commander of VFW Post 5546 in Trainer, a member of C.B.I. for many years and CCCS since 1939, and a member of the New Castle Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen L. Rothmel; a daughter, Kathleen L. Geary of Caldwell, Ohio; three sons, Daniel J. Rothmel of Stuart, David C. Rothmel of Ocean View, N.J., and Dennis J. Rothmel of Pottsville, Pa.; a sister, Marie McCoy of Blackwood, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be noon Wednesday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 226 E. Main St., Cecilton, Md., where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Earleville, Md.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Church, P.O. Box 29, Earleville, MD 21919.
