Posted

OCEAN VIEW — The Historic Village in Ocean View will hold the next presentation in its 2023 Lecture Series at 7 p.m. March 15 at Hall’s Store Visitor and Education Center.

George Kent, an Ocean View resident and the principal cartographer and mapping supervisor at the Delaware Department of Transportation from 1965-2013, will discuss the history of mapping in the state and its long battle with border disputes.

Highlights include:

  • How was the southern boundary of Delaware selected on a deserted beach at Fenwick Island?
  • Who is Thomas West?
  • Why did early maps of Delaware display the west direction pointing up?
  • Where is the Mason-Dixon Line?

This lecture is free to the public, with parking available around John West Park.

Hall’s Store is at 32 West Ave.
