Herman Collier, 74

FELTON - Herman Collier, of Felton, formerly of South Philadelphia and Upper Darby, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, in Delaware County Memorial Hospital, in Drexel Hill, Pa. He was born May 9, 1934 in Betsy Layne, Ky., to the late Mary (Castle) Collier and Ovie Collier. Mr. Collier retired from the Merchant Marines in 1980, where he was a Chief Master Pumpman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collier was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie T. (Mockewich) Collier. He is survived by his daughter, Josephine (Patrick) Gallagher of Lansdowne, Pa.; two sons, Michael (Jeanine) Aversa of Honey Brook, Pa., and Richard Aversa of Wilmington; and a grandson, Shawn Rudolph. A Merchant Marine Funeral Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, Pa., where friends and family may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
