MILFORD - Henry S. Saunders of Milford, Delaware was born on October 7, 1928 and went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2014. Henry, the son of Lillian and Henry S. Saunders Sr., graduated from Milford High School in 1946. An optician and gemologist by trade, Henry owned and operated H. S. Saunders, Inc., a successful business offering fine jewelry, gifts and optical services. Henry was a member of the Delaware National Guard for 18 years and a member of the Avenue Methodist Church in Milford for more than 50 years. Throughout the years he enjoyed bowling, excelled at trapshooting and displayed a talent for singing and painting. A people person, Henry was happiest spending time golfing with his buddies or entertaining the family with his storytelling. Henry was preceded in death by Beverly, his wife of 57 years; and his sister, Margaret McGinnis. His immediate surviving family members are Jackie and Bill Benton of Camden, Del., Jeanine Sala of Palm City, Fla., Barbara and Michael McGinnis of Charlotte, Vt., Susan and Gary Oleson of Sterling, Va., and Willard and Renee McGinnis of Centerville, Va. Henry's family would like to thank the administration and staff of Heritage at Milford and the Milford Center for their kindness and dedication to Henry during the last few years. Service will be 12 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather two hours earlier. Burial will follow at Milford Community Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Avenue Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, DE 19963.
