Stewart, 74 SMYRNA - Henry Francis Stewart passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 23, 1939 to William Russell Stewart and Helen Hasson Stewart in Northfield N.J. and grew up in Wilmington, Del. He was predeceased by his mother, father and older brother, William Russell Stewart, Jr. Mr. Stewart graduated in Accounting from Beacom College in Wilmington. He joined the staff of the Morris County Park Commission in Morristown, N.J. in 1965 where he served as Director of Finance and later as Assistant to the Executive Director. He utilized his interests in historic preservation and the decorative arts to guide the restoration of many of the historic structures within the 14,000 acre park system, several of which are included on the National Register of Historic Places. He also served as a financial advisor to the Willowwood Foundation, the Morris County Parks and Conservation Foundation, the Friends of Patriots Path, the Morris Trails Conservancy and the Henry Tubbs Trust. After retirement from the Morris County Park Commission in 2002, he relocated to the historic district of Smyrna, Delaware where he worked on the restoration of the Dr. John Perkins homestead which was originally constructed in 1847, in which he resided. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association, the Smyrna-Clayton Heritage Association and the Friends of Winterthur Museum. He was a connoisseur and collector of antique oil lamps and was a member of the Rushlight Club and the Historical Lighting Society of Canada. Mr. Stewart was also a knowledgeable enthusiast and collector of classical music and vintage cinema and was a member of the Delius Society of Great Britain and a Life Member of its Philadelphia, PA Branch. Services are private at his request. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19904 are suggested.
