Helen (Betty) Sandwisch FAIRFIELD, CALIF - Betty Sandwisch, 70, passed away from cancer on June 6, 2010 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on Dec. 15, 1939, Dover, Del. She resided in Fairfield for 30 years and moved to Vacaville to a small retirement community, Diamond Grove, in 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Helen Harrington; her mother a nurse, her father a CPA and owner and operator of the Harrington Insurance Co., and her youngest sister, Ethel Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, who passed away in 2008. She is survived by her husband, Roger Sandwisch; three daughters, Karen (Dane) Albrecht of Vacaville, Calf., Robyn (Ted) McDavitt of Benicia and Sandra (Tony) Custer of Coatsville, Pa., Ruth and Jack Lavin; her sister and brother-in-law of Humphries, Va., who she spent many many vacations with throughout the years. She felt so blessed to have had such a wonderful, caring sister and brother-in-law. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Melissa Preston; and two step-grandchildren, Kyle and Jena; and one great granddaughter of Santa Rosa, Calif., Kiana Preston. She has nine great-grandchildren, five living in Fairfield and two in Washington and two in Coatsville, Pa. Her family, grandbabies, dog (Jessie), and church meant the world to her. She was an Administrative Assistant/Secretary most of her life. She retired from Travis Air Force Base after almost 30 years working in that capacity to the Mission Support Commander. During this time, she graduated from the School of Arts in San Francisco with a Liberal Arts Degree in Interior Design. This was something she always wanted to do and loved working with Yvonne's Interior and Designs in Vallejo, Calif. for over 15 years until her health deteriorated. Whatever job she acquired, she always wanted to be the best at whatever she did. While working at Travis Air Force Base, she received the "Outstanding Civilian Technician Manager of the Year Award" in 1993. At her retirement, she received the highest award given to a civilian for "Exemplary Civilian Service to the Department of the Air Force", given to her by the Wing Commander. She felt very blessed to have found such a great companion and husband when she married Roger. They were very fortunate to have traveled all over and enjoyed cruises. She loved and collected elephants admiring their beauty and good luck. She was blessed with many wonderful friends, family and co-workers, all of whom miss her dearly. The family invites friends for visitation on Thursday evening, 5 to 8 p.m. in the Nadeau Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, at 10 a.m. in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Wilse officiating. Interment will follow in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone from Kaiser Hospice and also to Kathy Casella, her caregiver for the many tireless hours provided. There will be a reception following the cemetery services at Diamond Groves Club House. Her love of animals was endless. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPCA, Peabody Road, Vacaville, CA., 95688 Arrangements entrusted to the care of Nadeau Family Funeral Home,180 E. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville, CA., 95688.
