DOVER - Helen L. Evans of Dover died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 96.
Mrs. Evans was born June 2, 1910, in St. Louis, daughter of the late Bennett and Hazel (Hurst) Mickey.
She was a homemaker and worked in the potted plants of the flower market in Wilmington for 25 years.
Mrs. Evans was a member of the Women's Federation for 50 years, the Dover Century Club and the Wilmington Century Club. She was also a member of the Republican Committee and was very active in the Republican Party until recently, and served as a chaplain for the Kent County Republican Women, which she was involved with for 25 years. She was on the Board of Architectures in Wilmington for eight years, and many others of this nature. She was also on the Commission for the Blind for 13 years.
In addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence H. Evans, in 1970.
She is survived by her daughter, Edna "Tottie" Fries of Wilmington; two granddaughters, Deborah Savage of Wilmington and Sondra Weidman of Telford, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Coleman and Daniel Coleman, both of Telford, and William Savage of Wilmington; a niece, Marlyn Jean Schmal of Lancing, Ill.; and several other nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Wilmington.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
