Helen Geraldine Martin, 76

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ - Helen Geraldine Martin, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, in her home. She was 76. Mrs. Martin was born in Dover, the daughter of James G. Dye and Helen Hunter Dye. Gerry was a graduate of Dover High School and the University of Delaware, and taught in Dover for four years before her marriage. The first 10 years of her marriage included moving with her Air Force family to New Jersey, then to Newfoundland, Canada, and then back to New Jersey. She returned to teaching in Mount Laurel in 1969. She taught for 21 years at the Parkway School and for four years at the Larchmont School. She was a life member of the National Education Assoc. since 1955 and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Martin was the organist for Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hainesport for 25 years through 1989. She served on the Local Assistance Board for Mount Laurel in the late 1980s. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hull Martin. Mrs. Martin is survived by her six children, Catherine Knight and husband Barney of Maryland, Patrick Martin of Massachusetts, Margaret Bieler of Georgia, James Martin and wife Bonnie of Lumberton, Anne LaFleur of Westampton, and Michael Martin and wife Deborah of Maryland; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer Carduck, Jennifer Kusel, Christine Wicklund, Curtis Kusel, William Bieler, Joseph Bieler, Megan Martin, Sadie Martin, Heather Martin, Katherine LaFleur, Sarah LaFleur, John LaFleur, Ashleigh Martin, Hunter Martin, and Logan Martin; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Carduck, Juliana Carduck, Jacob Carduck, Gavin Shaw, Gage Shaw, Kaydin Wicklund, and Troy Kusel. A Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, October 19, and again from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, followed by the funeral service all at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, N.J.. Interment will be in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smile Train, 245 Fifth Ave., Suite 2201, New York, NY 10016; or to Doctors Without Borders, 333 Seventh Ave., 2nd Fl, New York, NY 10001.
