Helen E. Freeman, 90
MILFORD - Helen E. Freeman of Milford passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, in Cooper University Hospital, Camden, N.J. She was 90.
Mrs. Freeman was born Aug. 26, 1916, in Queen Anne's County, Md., daughter of the late T. Franklin and Mollie (Emory) Pinder.
After graduating from a beauty academy in Chester, Pa., she established the Ladies Desire Salon in Milford which she operated for several years before she and her husband opened the long time popular Milford Tastee-Freez. They worked together in the operation of the business serving good food and providing a safe atmosphere for youth to socialize and "breeze the Freez" for 29 years. They retired in 1988.
Mrs. Freeman was instrumental in starting the state Board of Cosmetology in Delaware. She was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly in Milford, where she attended weekly as a member of the Community Bible Study, and was an active participant of the Women's Bible Workshop.
She was a devoted member of the Church of the Nazarene, Milford. She especially enjoyed weekly Bible study, where she was lovingly referred to by all as "Mom-Mom." She loved the Lord and took advantage of any opportunity to share that love with others.
Many will remember the delicious cakes Mrs. Freeman baked for all kinds of occasions.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Roy D. Freeman; four brothers, Earl Pinder, Arthur Pinder, Kennard Pinder and Philip Pinder; a sister, Evelyn Johnston; and a great-grandson, Phillip Love.
She is survived by a son, Roy D. "Dan" Freeman II of Cherry Hill, N.J.; a daughter and a son-in-law, Jean E. and Arthur J. Bradley of Milford; three grandchildren, H. Lynn Hills, Kay Strader and Michael J. Bradley; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call from 12:30 p.m.
Burial will be in the Milford Community Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Church of the Nazarene, 11 N.W. Salevan Place, Milford, DE 19963; or a charity of choice.
