SLAUGHTER NECK - Helen Davis Crapper Nichols, of Slaughter Neck, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark, after a brief illness. She was 93.
Mrs. Nichols was a beautiful person with a love for God that was unchangeable.
Mrs. Nichols was born April 16, 1913, in the Slaughter Neck area, to the late Henry and Adel (Shockley) Davis.
She grew up, attended school and remained in the Slaughter Neck area her entire life.
She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served as vice president of the United Methodist Women, assistant Sunday school teacher, church clerk and was a member of the United Council of Negro Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roscoe B. Crapper in 1970; her second husband, Charles Nichols in 1984; and her son, Randolph Crapper in 2005.
She is survived by a son, Roscoe Wayne Crapper of Slaughter Neck; Paul E. Wilmer Jr. whom she reared as a son and grandson; five daughters, Grace C. Jackson, Bertha M. Young, Florence V. Leonard, Jeanette M. Mifflin and Gloria L. Scott; a sister, Violetta Zachary; a special neice, Retha H. Freeman of Dover; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Slaughter Neck Road, Slaughter Neck, where friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to services. The Rev. Joshua Lebelo will officiate.
