DOVER - Hazel Venatta Englehart, 88, of Dover, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2012, at Milford Center. Born May 27, 1923, in New Kensington, Pa., she was the daughter of the late D. Frank and Edith L. Venatta. A graduate of Camp Hill High School, near Harrisburg, Pa., she received a degree in secretarial studies from the Central Pennsylvania Business College. During World War II, she worked at the New Cumberland Army Depot and volunteered with the USO. She married Edwin F. Englehart on July 29, 1945. In 1948, they moved to Wyoming, where Eddie began his teaching career in the Caesar Rodney School District. In addition to her devotion to her family as wife, mother and homemaker, Hazel's life was defined by her passion for music and commitment to her church. A gifted soprano vocalist, she sang with the Senior Choir of First Baptist Church, the Century Club Chorus, the Community Singers and the Delaware Choral Society. She directed the Junior and Youth Choirs at First Baptist Church, inspiring countless young folks to share her love of music. She founded "The Singing Ladies" of the Wyoming-Camden Round Table Club, directing it for 30 years. In addition, she performed in a number of community musicals in the Dover area, and was in frequent demand as a soloist for weddings and community events. She also served as a substitute choral and general music teacher in the Caesar Rodney School District. As an active member of First Baptist Church, she was a member of the Ann Judson Society supporting denominational mission activities, was a member of American Baptist Women and held local and statewide offices, and frequently served on church boards. She was active in Church Women United, an inter-denominational state / national organization, in which she held both local and statewide offices. She was a member and held many offices in the Round Table Club of Wyoming-Camden and the General Federation of Women's Clubs. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 ½ years, Edwin F. Englehart; her brother, D. Frank Venatta, Jr.; and sister, Olive Jane Worthington. She is survived by her son, William F. Englehart and wife Lora; daughter, Margaret E. Steinhoff and husband Philip; daughter, Janet E. Schrader and husband Harold; grandchildren, Lorraine Steinhoff, Erika Geminetti and husband Robert, and W. Bradford Englehart; sisters-in-law, Ida Mae Englehart, and Ann Storey and husband Richard; and numerous nieces and nephews. The life of Hazel V. Englehart will be celebrated at First Baptist Church of Dover, on Saturday, March 17, 2012, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Round Table Club of Wyoming-Camden, P.O. Box 185, Wyoming DE 19934; or First Baptist Church / Missions, 301 Walker Road, Dover DE 19901. Arrangements by Pippin Funeral Home. Letters of condolence can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
