FREDERICA - Hazel Mae Harris-Goldsborough of Frederica departed this life on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Green Valley Pavillion in Smyrna. She was 87.
She was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Felton, the daughter of the late Rev. Fisher and Sarah E. Harris
She was educated in the Berrytown and Harrington public schools. She completed her education at Howard High School, Wilmington. She was a lifetime member of St. James AME Church, Berrytown, Felton/ St. James Union, Frederica.
She served as church secretary under the pastorate of Rev. Ervin Williams Sr. for several years. She was a steward, stewardess, trustee, missionary, a member of the ladies aide, pastor's aide, Sunday school member and a member of the senior choir.
Hazel was employed at Swift Co. in Felton and later Perdue in Milford until her retirement.
Hazel enjoyed life to the fullest. She always had a smile and enjoyed singing. Her favorite pastime was planting and growing flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, James Bailey and Raymond Goldsborough; one son, Billy Harris; one brother, Charles F. Harris; three sisters; Eloise "Sissy" Harris-Dixon, Mary Harris-Hicks and Ella Margaret Harris-King; and one nephew, Ellsworth Collins Jr.
She is survived by a loving and devoted niece, Joan Biddle of Felton; two nephews, Benjamin Hicks Jr. and wife, Carolyn of Walterboro, S.C. and Charles Hicks and wife, Kelvin of Sylmar, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Lillian Harris of Felton; several great and great-great-nieces and nephews; one godson, Bruce Mosley Jr.; a loyal cousin, Harold Perry Sr. of Frederica; her "baby" and devoted cousin, Delema Carter of Felton; a dear friend she called on numerous times, Thomas Brown; and a host of cousins, other family members, friends, and her extended family at Green Valley Pavilion and the Delaware Hospice.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Zion AME Church in Dover, where friends may view two hours prior.
