Harvey Simpson 'Buss' Hoffecker Jr., 91
CLAYTON - Harvey Simpson "Buss" Hoffecker Jr., age 91, of Clayton, died at his home on June 20, 2009. He was born in Chester, Pa., Jan. 7, 1918, the son of the late Harvey and Helen George Hoffecker. He graduated from Newark H.S, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp. as an aircraft mechanic and later with the Delaware National Air Guard. He retired from the Civil Service after a long career as a Helicopter Inspector. He was a member of the Moose Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed his later life at his winter home in Zephyrhills, Fla. playing golf and attending dinner dances at various places. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Smith in 1988, mother of their four children; his second wife, Martha in 1999; brothers, Robert and Richard; and his grandson, Abe Hoffecker. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth of Middletown, Guy of Kennett Square, Pa., and Wayne of Smyrna; his daughter, Shirley Sink of Victorville, Calif.; two step-children, Susan Davis of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Joe Hufford of Townsend; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and his special friend and companion, Dorothy Hutchison of Newark and her daughters, Gail and Ann. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 27 at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Rt. 13, New Castle. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
