Harry Shaffer Carter, 76

EASTON, Md. - Harry Shaffer Carter of Easton died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, in Genesis Elder Care-The Pines, Easton. He was 76.

Mr. Carter was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Stevensville, Queen Anne's County, son of the late John R. and Ida M. Carter.

He received his education through the public school systems in St. Michaels and Easton. He received his religious training at an early age at Union United Methodist Church.

Mr. Carter entered the U.S. Army and served two years, receiving an honorable discharge.

He was employed by Higgins and Spencer Furniture store for 25 years. He also worked for many years for Hudson's Pharmacy, before retiring as a waterman.

He loved watching the Orioles play and cooking his famous fried chicken for his family. He was a helping hand in his community to anyone who needed him. He was loved by many.

Mr. Carter was joined in holy matrimony to Rosalee Allen Caldwell in March 1963. Out of that union Denese Rosalee Carter was born. Later, in April 1993, he married Janet Mae Green.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Carter; a daughter, Denese Rosalee Carter of Hurlock; a son, William A. Caldwell of Easton; a mother-in-law, Hilda Mae Wilson; six step-children, James C. Caldwell of Denton, William A. Caldwell of Seattle, Wash., Sharon A. Caldwell of Easton, Karen F. Caldwell of St. Michael's, Bronté L. Wilson of Middletown, Del., and Dorsey L. Wilson of Easton; 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Ann C. Rodgers of Baltimore, Carol Wilson of Barclay, and Clara Franks of Centerville; two brothers, Charles Carter of Baltimore and Joseph Carter of Stevensville; nine brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Union United Methodist Church, St. Michaels, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.

Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton.
