SMYRNA - Harry Robert Hawes, age 79, of Smyrna, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 7, 2014 three weeks before his 80th birthday. Born in Federalsburg, Maryland, on September 28, 1934, Harry was the son of Harry Noble Hawes and Rosella Silkworth Hawes. He was a member of the Brown Vocational High School Class of 1952. He joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was Wilmington's Mr. Peanut, and worked at his father's gas station and his TV and Repair shop. On a blind date with his lifelong friend, Harold Figgs, Harry met the woman he would marry, Barbara Ann Trump. They were married in February 1954 and spent 60 wonderful, happy years together. Harry lived in Wilmington and worked for the Hercules Corporation for 38 years as a Technologist, retiring in 1994. They moved to Smyrna in 2001. He was a member of Unity Lodge #32 A.F. & A.M. of Newport. He enjoyed square dancing with the Circle 4 Club. He was an avid hunter, enjoying the thrill of the hunt, and was a life-long fisherman for over 70 years. He introduced the love of the outdoors to his family and friends and was a great mentor and friend. Above all else, Harry was the rock of our family, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by all. Harry was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Kathryn "Kaye" Carroll, of Peach Bottom, Pa. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Ann (Trump) Hawes; his daughter and her husband, Vicki and Archie DiArchangelo of Reading, Pa.; his daughter and her husband, Kathy and Wayne Alphin of Middletown; grandchildren, Nicole (DiArchangelo) Hartranft and Archie DiArchangelo; and great grandchildren, Kathryn, Rusty, and Michael. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who were proud to call him "Uncle Harry." Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. Services and interment will be held at the Gracelawn Memorial Chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 20 W.
