CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Harry J. Morris, retired Nationwide agent, outdoorsman, and sportsman, of Chestertown, Md. died on August 4, 2016 in Christiana, Del. He was 73. He was born in Law's Church, Del. on October 31, 1942, the son of the late Albert and Mildred Minner Morris. Harry graduated in 1960 from Felton High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Geraldine "Gerry" Barr, on November 3, 1962. Harry served in the National Guard. Harry worked for McCrory's Five and Dime Stores in Cape Charles, Va., Washington, D.C., and Baltimore before he and Gerry moved to Chestertown to be the local Manager of their store on High Street. Harry changed careers after Paul Bowman offered him his Nationwide Insurance franchise; working as an independent agent until his retirement in 2011. Everyone knew who lived in the "white house" on the corner of High Street and the by-pass (his original office), where you might find a boat or car for sale that belonged to one of his many friends. Harry was active within his community serving as Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #86, Past Chairman of Ducks Unlimited Kent County Chapter, Past President and Board member of Chester River Yacht and Country Club, Member of Capeville Masonic Lodge #107 of Cape Charles, Va., President of the Downtown Chestertown Association, as well as a member of the Chestertown Elks Lodge #2474. His interests included hunting, golf, sporting clays, and collecting guns. He was also a licensed charter boat captain. He will be remembered for his enthusiastic smile, his signature phrases, his passion for hunting and fishing, and his love of life. His wife predeceased him on September 19, 2002; along with a son, Robert Anthony Morris; and a brother, Lawrence Albert Morris. He is survived by his children, Carl A. "Cam" Morris of Rock Hall, Md., and James Michael Morris and his wife, Kim of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren; Jacob, Samantha, and Brandon; along with longtime friend, Patti Willard of Chestertown, Md. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Chester River Yacht and Country Club, where a celebration of his life will follow.
