He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army from August 1942 to November 1945. He served at the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Hurlock retired from Hoober Equipment Co. in 1998.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who enjoyed spending time at the beach and Sunday dinners with his family.

Mr. Hurlock was a member of Clayton Fire Co. No. 1, Inc.

He joined the company Dec. 8, 1953. He held the office of president in 1963, 1965 and 1970. He was director of equipment for several years and held the office of trustee from 1978-1980.

He served on the apparatus replacement committee for many years and was instrumental in many important purchases of equipment.

In December 2006, he and Bob Berghorn were recognized by having the new Quint Ladder Truck dedicated in their honor.

Mr. Hurlock"s proudest memories of the Clayton Fire Co. were watching his two sons, Jeff and Jay, join the fire company.
