DENTON, Md. - Harold J. Altfather of Denton died Friday, March 16, 2007, in Mariner Health of North Arundel, Glen Burnie, of cancer. He was 86.
Born in Denton, he was the son of the late John Walker and Malissa Jane (Will) Altfather. His wife, Eleanor Lee (Steele) Altfather, died March 18, 2003.
Mr. Altfather lived in Denton all his life and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European theater.
He was an auto salesman for Tayloe Lewis Motor, Beck Chevrolet and Smith Ford, all in Denton, selling cars until he was 80 years old.
Mr. Altfather was a member of Temple Lodge 129 A.F. & A.M. in Denton, and a past member of the Denton Lions Club.
He is survived by one son, John "Jack" Altfather of Millersville; one stepson, Douglas Murray of Bristol, Va.; three sisters, Ida Mae Powell of Seaford, Del., Catherine Trice of Denton and Ruth Gibson of Queen Anne; and one brother, Kenneth Altfather of Seaford.
His brothers, Harry Altfather and Nevin Altfather, and sister, Melinda Altfather, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Masonic memorial services will start at 2.
Interment will be in Denton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mariner Health of North Arundel, 313 Hospital Drive, Glen Burnie, MD 21601.
