Harold G. 'Lucky' Buesgens, 81

GREENSBORO, Md. - Harold G. "Lucky" Buesgens of Greensboro died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 81.

Mr. Buesgens was born July 1, 1925, in Belle Plaine, Minn., son of the late Peter J. and Catherine (Schommer) Jacob.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy June 11, 1944, and retired June 15, 1963, in Annapolis. He attended Basic Hospital Corpsman School, Farragut, Idaho; Radiological Imaging School at Oakland Naval Hospital, Oakland, Calif.; Atomic, Biological and Chemical Warfare Monitoring, Norfolk, Va.; and VD Monitoring and Reporting, School of Tropical Medicine, San José, Puerto Rico; and Naval Instructor School at the Naval School Command, Norfolk. He was certified in the Navy as a deep-sea diver.

Mr. Buesgens, after retiring, worked for the automotive department of Sears Roebuck and Co., Parole.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing and photography, and was an avid bridge player.

Mr. Buesgens was a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Annapolis; a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Annapolis; and vice president of the Davidson PTA. He also belonged to the AARP in Denton, Greensboro Business and Civic Association, Greensboro Parks and Recreation, Greensboro Planning and Zoning Commission, Harrington (Del.) Senior Center, Harrington Bridge Club and Knights of Columbus Dover (Del.) Council. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, Marydel, and an Oblate of the Order of St. Benedict.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lois M. Buesgens; a son, Peter J. Buesgens of Goldsboro; five daughters, Debra Blish of Salt Springs, Fla., Rita Brown of Beaufort, S.C., Donna Petro of Deal, Barbara Passo of Easton and Patricia Doyle of Baltimore; eight grandchildren, Madeleine Blish and Jacob Blish, both of Rochester, N.Y., Christian Passo of Salisbury, Nathan Buesgens, Matthew Buesgens and Rebecca Buesgens, all of Goldsboro, and Caitlin Brown and Ryan Brown, both of Beaufort; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. today in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel.

Burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Immaculate Conception Church, PO Box 399, Marydel, MD 21649; Benedictine Sisters, 14259 Benedict Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660; or Knights of Columbus, 1112 Seeneytown Road, Dover, DE 19904.
