DOVER - Harold Dean "Tex" Gober died peacefully, with family, members of Compassionate Care Hospice, and the loving staff of Courtland Manor at his side, at Courtland Manor Nursing in Dover on Friday, April 24, 2009. He was 74. Mr. Gober was born and raised in Wise County, Texas, the son of the late James Matterson Gober and Lena D. (Hicks) Gober. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Dover, when he met his wife, Gladys Marie Carroll. They had a daughter, Sylvia Jean Gober and a son, James Dean Gober. Sylvia died in infancy and Gladys and Jimmy were killed in an automobile accident on April 28, 1985. He loved fishing and NASCAR. He worked for Wharton & Barnard, Inc. and Manlove Automotive. He owned and operated the Tackle Box, in Milford, in the late 80's. He is survived by his faithful companion of 18 years, Brudetta "BJ" Jones of Smyrna; a nephew, Jerry Brittingham and his wife Karen Emory Brittingham of Ellendale; Brudetta's children, Cathy Cresto, Mary Boswell and Butch Jones. Other survivors include his twin sister, Wanda Jean Stewart and his brother Thomas Jefferson Gober, both whom reside in Texas. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, James Matterson Gober, Jr. and Billy Joe Gober; three sisters, Elizabeth T. Gober, E. Ernestine Gober, and Lovett Gober; and Brudetta's daughter, Jackie Cresto. Tex wanted to acknowledge, and thank, the staff of Courtland Manor, and the members of Compassionate Care Hospice, for their assistance, their compassion and their care during his illness. Military services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805; or to Courtland Manor Nursing Home, 889 S. Little Creek Road, Dover, DE 19901. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
