MILFORD - Hannah "Joan" Holland Banks passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Milford, home on Sept. 6, 2011, after a lengthy struggle with heath problems. Born in Rehoboth on Feb. 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Cornelius and Leora Dutton Holland. Joan was a homemaker who was devoted to her family, serving as Den Mother while her sons were in scouts. She loved cooking, bird-watching, horseback riding and gardening. Joan is survived by her estranged husband, Ruley F. Banks Jr. of Dagsboro; sons, Mark R. Banks of Milford, and Brian K. Banks and wife Rhonda of Salisbury, Md.; a sister, Janet Martin of Seaford; grandchildren, Holly and Bonnie Banks; and nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. Preceding Joan in death were brother, John "Jack" C. Holland Jr.; and sister, Sarah Holland Fillian. A viewing and funeral service celebrating Joan's Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at 1 and 2 p.m., respectively, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. Pastor Robert Hudson will officiate. Interment will follow at Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach. Floral tributes are welcomed at the service. In addition, memorial contributions may be made to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 28467 Dupont Blvd., Unit 6, Suite 6, Millsboro, DE 19966.
