H. Jackson Moore Jr., 84

H. Jackson Moore Jr. of Smyrna, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in his home. He was 84.

Mr. Moore was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Guyencourt, son of the late Harry J. and Eva Galbraith Moore.

He was a 1940 graduate of A.I. du Pont High School, Wilmington.

Mr. Moore served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later was recalled to serve in the Korean War. He served in the medical corps, and was assigned to a Marine unit. His unit had the distinction of being the first to enter into Nagasaki, Japan, after the atomic bomb was dropped on the city.

He was employed as a safety supervisor with Catalytic Construction, Delaware City, and retired in 1986. After his retirement, he devoted much of his time to volunteer work at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover and spent many hours enjoying working in his garden at home. He and his wife also traveled extensively, having visited 26 foreign countries and most of the United States.

Mr. Moore was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts for many years and was a member and former president of the Safety Engineers Club.

He will be remembered as a great husband and great father.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Barlow.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn A. Moore; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Lynda Moore of Colonial Heights, Va. and David and Jayne Moore of Edgewater, Md.; two grandsons; three granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, near Newark.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware, 700A River Road, Wilmington, DE 19809-2746.
