MIDDLETOWN - Gwendolyn Elizabeth Coston of Middletown, formerly of Girdletree, Md., departed this life on Thursday, March 15, 2007, in Christiana Care after a lengthy illness. She was 86.
She was the daughter of the late John E. and Hattie O. Ennis and was born in Worcester County, Md., in 1920.
In her early years, Gwen worked as a domestic housekeeper and as a cook at the Stockton Nursing Home. Later, she was employed by Head Start in Newark, Md., Social Services in Maryland and Furnace Town in Snow Hill, Md.
She was dedicated to her church, family and friends. For over 50 years, she was a faithful member of Coolspring United Methodist Church in Girdletree.
When her health declined, she moved to Delaware, where she became a member of Alpha Baptist Church in Belvedere.
In her daily walk, she always exemplified Godly character and unwavering commitment to our Master"s service.
A devoted homemaker, Miss Gwen was known for her delicious food, beautiful flower gardens and meticulous attention to detail.
She is preceded in death by her husband Norman J. Coston in 1999.
She is survived by three daughters, Norma A. Brewington, Carolyn E. Brittingham, and Felisa F. Wainwright; one son, Darnell L. Coston; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Coolspring United Methodist Church, 3430 Snow Hill Road in Girdletree, where friends may view two hours prior.
