GREENWOOD — The Greenwood High School Alumni Association awarded eight $1,500 scholarships to students who had a grandparent graduate from Greenwood High School.

Greenwood High School Alumni Association awards $12,000 in scholarships

GREENWOOD — The Greenwood High School Alumni Association awarded eight $1,500 scholarships to students who had a grandparent graduate from Greenwood High School.

The eight recipients are:

  • The Ethel Gibson Horner Scholarship was given to Savannah Carter who attended Prince Avenue Christian High School and will be attending Berry College majoring in psychology. Savannah is the granddaughter of Donna Faye Bradley Carter (class of 1970).
  • The Robert Graham Scholarship (class of 1947) was given to John Downes who attended Old Saybrook High School and will be attending Ithaca College majoring in film/photography. John is the grandson of David and Terry Bowman Lloyd (both class of 1971).
  • The William Howlett Scholarship (class of 1949) in memory of Barbara Davis (class of 1951) was given to Gloria (GiGi) Kardoush who attended Saint Agnes Academy and will be attending the University of Mississippi majoring in business. Gigi is the granddaughter of Nora Ellen Vincent Taylor (class of 1965).
  • The Dr. William Lord Scholarship (class of 1953) in memory of Betsey Lord Wilkie (class of 1955) was given to Nathaniel Gardner who attended Lake Forest High School and will attend Delaware Technical Community College majoring in criminal justice. Nathaniel is the grandson of Bobby (class of 1963) and Sylvia Vincent Wright (class of 1964).
  • The Dr. William Lord Scholarship (class of 1953) in memory of Phyllis Baker Kemp (class of 1950) was given to Kelsey Jernigan who attended Delmarva Christian High School and will be attending Liberty University majoring in biology/biophysical sciences. Kelsey is the granddaughter of Franklin and Karen Outten Spence (both class of 1968).
  • The Dr. William Lord Scholarship (class of 1953) in memory of Kenneth Williamson (class of 1953) was given to Brooke Warzecha who attended Industrial High School and will be attending Texas A&M University majoring in biomedical science/veterinary. Brooke is the granddaughter of Robert Lord (class of 1961).
  • The Gene Carlisle Scholarship (former teacher) in memory of Roy and Margaret Wall (former teachers) was given to Brooke Watkins who attended Glen Allen High School and will be attending Roanoke College majoring in criminology. Brooke is the granddaughter of Larry and Vicki Woodall Cannon (both class of 1965).
  • The In Memory of Jane Locke Scholarship (former teacher) was given to Colton Webb who attended Milford High School and will be attending Delaware Technical Community College majoring in accounting/business. Colton is the grandson of Kenny Baker (class of 1962).
